Gov’t Mule headlined night two of Joe Bonamassa‘s Sound Wave Beach Weekend in Miramar Beach, Florida on Saturday. Bandleader Warren Haynes brought out the festival host as well as performer Grace Potter for dual sit-ins during Mule’s set.
The first guest spot saw Grace Potter joining Gov’t Mule for a cover of the Fleetwood Mac classic, “Gold Dust Woman.” Haynes handled lead vocals to begin the song before Potter popped in to trade verses with the guitarist ahead of a duet on the chorus of the Rumours cut.
Bonamassa emerged two songs later on “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home.” Written by Al Jackson Jr. and Timothy Matthews, Ann Peebles released the song on her 1971 album, Straight from the Heart. Blues great Albert King also recorded “Breaking Up Somebody’s Home.”
Haynes and Bonamassa certainly took a few pages from Albert’s book, trading fiery riffage on their collaboration at Sound Wave. After Bonamassa’s departure, Gov’t Mule went it alone for The Allman Brothers Band‘s “Dreams,” original “Mule,” and the Haynes-penned/ABB released “Soulshine” to wrap the performance.
