Gov’t Mule made their debut at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on Friday. The band led by guitarist/vocalist Warren Haynes offered premieres of location-appropriate covers during their most recent stop in the Mile High City.

Gov’t Mule linked up the traditional “Railroad Boy” with “After The Storm” off their most recent studio album, Peace… Like A River, to open the show. Later, the seventh slot of the first set saw Mule unveil a cover of Bob Seger's “Get Out Of Denver.”

The rocker kicks off Seger’s 1974 album, Seven. The record was the first to feature Bob Seger’s renowned Silver Bullet Band. Gov’t Mule got the Mission jumping with the Chuck Berry-esque number with Haynes and multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis ripping the song up on guitar and piano respectively.

Following the “Get Out Of Denver” debut, Mule offered a pair of Radiohead songs, “Karma Police” and “Paranoid Android.” The first frame came to a close with the staple “Time To Confess.”

Set two got underway with “Patchwork Quilt,” a song Haynes wrote in the wake of Jerry Garcia's death that was included on the sole Phil & Friends' studio album, There And Back Again, released in 2002. The quintessential Colorado song, Joe Walsh's “Rocky Mountain Way,” fell in the 14th song slot.

Mule’s “Rocky Mountain Way” debut was not only a Colorado crowd pleaser but also a perfect showcase for Warren’s slide skills. Louis handled Walsh’s iconic talk box solo on the keys. Gov’t Mule sealed the show with another fitting number, Tom Waits' “Goin’ Out West.”

Drummer Matt Abts continues to take time away from the stage to prioritize his health. Terence Higgins was once again behind the kit in Denver.
