Monday marked the final Gov’t Mule performance of the 7th annual Island Exodus. Warren Haynes and Co. welcomed many guests and dusted off many covers over the course of two sets at at The Jewel Paradise Cove Resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica.

Gov’t Mule opened the first set with a “Mule” > “What Is Hip?” > “Mule” sequence. The guest spots started towards the end of the opening stanza when saxophonist Ron Holloway emerged for a cover of “Pass The Peas.” Mule then reprised their famed Rolling Stones tribute from Halloween ’09 in Philadelphia by trotting out three Stones covers to end the set. “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” featured guitarist Jackie Greene and vocalist Machan Taylor, while both “Slave” and “Bitch” contained contributions from Greene, Taylor and Holloway.

The second set started with a throwback to the band’s 2014 Halloween tribute to Neil Young with Jackie Greene in Cincinnati as a string of “Tonight’s The Night” and “Cinnamon Girl” > “Tonight’s The Night” featuring Jackie (and Taylor on “Cinnamon Girl”) led off. Gov’t Mule then welcomed back Holloway for a version of “Fallen Down” that gave way to a jam on the Grateful Dead’s “Other One.” Next up was a cover of “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home” with contributions from Holloway and Rocky Lindsley, while both also contributed to the set-closing “Rebel Soulshine” – a mashup of “Soulshine” and Bob Marley’s “Rebel Music.” The band ended the night and event by themselves for a “Game Face,” “Time To Confess” encore.
