Gov’t Mule Covers Neil Young & Jimi Hendrix With Charlie Starr In Peoria

By Scott Bernstein Aug 23, 2016 8:01 am PDT

On Monday night Gov’t Mule continued their Smokin’ Mule Summer Tour with Blackberry Smoke at Center Stage At The Landing in Peoria, Illinois. Once again, Mule ended the show by bringing out Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie Starr for a classic rock encore.

Warren Haynes & Co. treated the Illinois faithful to main set heavy on originals from throughout Mule’s 20+ year career. The evening came to a close when Gov’t Mule returned for an encore with Charlie Starr that included covers of Neil Young’s “Cowgirl In The Sand” and “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Mule and their guest also worked an instrumental take on “Machine Gun” from Jimi Hendrix’s Band Of Gypsys days within “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Haynes and his band last played “Cowgirl In The Sand” back on November 1, 2014.

Due to a high chance of rain, tonight’s Gov’t Mule and Blackberry Smoke concert in Des Moines, Iowa has been moved under the canopy at Brenton Skating Plaza.
