Gillian Welch and David Rawlings added a series of five fall dates to their ongoing Grateful Dead Acoustic Reckoning Tour. The pair will continue the tribute to the 45th anniversary of Grateful Dead's live album, Reckoning, into October.
The fall run begins on October 18 at the Warner Theatre in Washington D.C. Welch and Rawlings then head to Baltimore on October 19 before a swing through Virginia for shows in Richmond on October 20 and Roanoke on October 22. The brief excursion ends on October 23 at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, North Carolina.
Pre-sale tickets can be obtained using the password RECKONING at 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, July 15. Tickets then go on sale to the public on Friday, July 17 at 10 a.m. ET.
“The Grateful Dead flirted with acoustic music throughout their career, until they released their Reckoning album, 45 years ago,” Welch and Rawlings shared when the initial set of dates was announced. “We have flirted with Grateful Dead music throughout our career, until this anniversary was suggested as a good reason to book these shows. We know the Dead’s music is a mountain, and we’re hoping to start up from base camp this Spring in celebration of their legacy.”
Gillian Welch and David Rawlings started the tribute tour in April. The duo was joined by bassist Paul Kowert of Punch Brothers for shows mixing Reckoning tracks with other favorites from the Grateful Dead’s live repertoire.
Welch and Rawlings will bring the tribute to Newport Folk later this month. A series of Pacific Northwest dates follow in August.
