Gillian Welch and David Rawlings surprised fans by today releasing All The Good Times, a collection of 10 acoustic covers recorded by the longtime collaborators at home using a reel-to-reel. All The Good Times is out digitally with vinyl and CD editions now available for pre-order.
The album starts with the pair’s versions of Elizabeth Cotten’s “Oh Babe It Ain’t No Lie” and Bob Dylan’s “Señor.” Traditional songs “Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss” and “Poor Ellen Smith” are broken up with a cover of John Prine’s “Hello In There.”

Welch and Rawlings’ compilation continues with the song that gave the LP its title, the traditional “All The Good Times Are Past And Gone.” The duo also covered Norman Blake’s “Ginseng Sullivan,” Dylan’s “Abandon Love” and “Jackson” — a song penned by Billy Edd Wheeler and Jerry Lieber that was popularized by Johnny Cash and June Carter. All The Good Times ends with Arlie Duff’s “Y’all Come.”
