Ghost Of Paul Revere say farewell with Goodbye, a new studio album out today through Americana Vibes. The band’s final collection of songs arrives as the Portland, Maine-based quartet prepares to take the stage one last time at their hometown Ghostland festival tomorrow, Saturday, September 3.
Guitarist Griffin Sherry, banjoist Max Davis, bassist Sean McCarthy and drummer Chuck Gagne formed Ghost Of Paul Revere in 2011 and over the past decade released three full-length albums and three Field Notes EPs leading up to Goodbye. On the live end, Ghost Of Paul Revere performed more than 1,200 shows having shared the stage with such acts as The Avett Brothers, Trampled By Turtles, Old Crow Medicine Show and The Revivalists.
Americana Vibes not only issued Goodbye but also re-released the band’s back catalog. “Everything that we strive for here at Americana Vibes is embodied within the music, art, and humanity behind this album, Goodbye,” explained label co-founder Ivory Daniel. “We’re excited to welcome the Ghosts to our family, and even more so to release this body of work while amplifying the importance of the Ghosts catalog across the globe.”
Griffin Sherry discussed Goodbye and the band’s music in a statement, noting:
“I hope listeners love the songs and want to keep listening to them for as long as they’ve got ears. I do think it is a good moment in time for us. I hope the whole body of work shows you the journey we’ve been on from where we started to how we got here. We took a lot of chances and integrated different types of music and instruments, but the core has been there since 2011. That core is we care about the songs, their quality, and singing on them with as much passion as possible. I hope Goodbye shows that a group of friends can go out in the world, sing those songs, and be rewarded for it. Maybe it inspires other people to take a chance and realize creating can be a really wonderful thing to do. It has been for us.”
Ghost Of Paul Revere retreated to a family cabin to reunite and write new material in late 2020. The two-day songwriting session led to more such forays early the following year. The four-piece recorded Goodbye mostly live in the studio with co-producer and engineer Dan Cardinal. “The record ebbs and flows between soft songs that are more akin to what we used to do and more rocking songs with pretty good grit to them,” added Sherry.
In April, Ghost Of Paul Revere announced their decision to break up. “It has been a wild ride filled with an abundance of trials, tribulations and joy,” the band noted in a Facebook post detailing the decision. “When we first got together eleven years ago, we never could have imagined that we would be given the incredible opportunity to share our music with all of you for this long.”
