Get On Up James Brown Tribute At Hollywood Bowl

The iconic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles will host a tribute to James Brown on August 13 that will celebrate the release of a new James Brown biopic, Get on Up. Bassist Christian McBride will be the musical director of Get On Up: A James Brown Celebration, which is part of Hollywood Bowl’s Jazz at the Bowl series.

The list of performers is no joke and includes James Brown Band alumnus Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley, Jab’o Starks, Clyde Stubblefield and Danny Ray. Soul singer D’Angelo will make a rare appearance at the tribute, while others on the bill are Eric Krasno, Rodney Jones, Spike Neely, Eric Leeds, Randall Wilson, Fernando Pullum, James Cage, Aloe Blacc, Angelique Kidjo and Bettye LaVette.
