Furthur Kicks Off Paradise Waits In Mexico

For the past four years Furthur has been former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and guitarist Bob Weir’s main project, but that will soon change when the band goes on hiatus. Before the members of Furthur go their separate ways, they are playing four nights in Mexico as part of an event called Paradise Waits. Furthur laid down a pair of lengthy sets last night at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico that kicked off Paradise Waits.

Furthur broke up a pair of their best known song suites on Night One of Paradise Waits as “China Cat Sunflower” was performed in the first set without “I Know You Rider” and “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot!” kicked off Set Two with “Franklin’s Tower” serving as the encore. The band returned to the “Slipknot!” theme later in the closing stanza as a bridge between the second half of “Let It Grow” and “Playin’ In The Band.” Bob, Phil and the gang stuck to songs from the Grateful Dead’s live repertoire throughout the evening.
