Full Show Audio & Video: Umphrey’s McGee Welcomes Anders Beck & Paul Hoffman In Asheville
By Scott Bernstein Feb 19, 2017 • 6:46 am PST

Last night Umphrey’s McGee concluded a two-night stand at Exploreasheville.com Arena in Asheville, North Carolina that featured support from Greensky Bluegrass. For the second night in a row, UM brought up Anders Beck and Paul Hoffman of GSBG for a classic rock cover.
Greensky kicked off the action with a nine-song set that included fan favorites “Jaywalking,” “Demons” and “Kerosene” as well as an exploratory cover of Traffic’s “Light Up Or Leave Me Alone” and more. Umphrey’s opened their first of two sets with the instrumental intro “Gurgle” ahead of “Higgins.” Saturday’s first UM set also featured a wild “Puppet String” that saw guitarist Jake Cinninger play keys and a jammed-out “In The Kitchen.” The Chicago rockers welcomed Beck on dobro and Hoffman on mandolin and vocals at the end of the first set for a take on the Marshall Tucker Band classic “Can’t You See.”
Umphrey’s started their second set with “Mulche’s Odyssey” and then delivered an impressive “Hajimemashite” > “JaJunk” > “Miami Virtue” > “Remind Me” sequence. A quick romp through “Professor Wormbog” followed and then the band played “Much Obliged” before ending both “In The Kitchen” and “JaJunk.” The sextet had one more treat in store for the encore as they dusted off a cover of Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” for the first time since January 22, 2016. Tonight, UM plays the cozy confines of The Orange Peel in Asheville.
