Full Shows Audio & Video: Strangefolk Makes Terrapin Crossroads Debut

Earlier this month Strangefolk made a rare trip to the West Coast to make their Terrapin Crossroads debut. The band livestreamed video of the guest-filled performances on March 17 and 18 and crispy audio of both shows at the San Rafael, California venue have just surfaced on Archive.org.
Opening night was fittingly bookended by “Westerly” and the foursome reprised the tune on the second night of the run as well. Reid Genauer, Jon Trafton, Luke Smith and Erik Glockler played material from throughout their career over the course of the two-night stand along with a few special gems in honor of the occasion. On March 17, the quartet was joined by Terrapin Crossroads regular Stu Allen who added extra guitar to “Pawn” and “Going Down The Road Feelin’ Bad.” The Vermont natives also dusted off their cover of the traditional “Dreadful Wind & Rain,” a song Jerry Garcia played with his acoustic band and with David Grisman.
The second show saw Strangefolk aided by old friend Jason Crosby for “Rachel” in the first set as well as most of the second set and encore. Crosby was coming straight off a three-night stand across the country at The Capitol Theatre as a member of Phil Lesh & Friends. Strangefolk also welcomed Jesse Dunn and Jenni Charles of Dead Winter Carpenters to share the stage for covers of “Midnight Moonlight” and “Johnny B. Goode” as part of the sceond set on the 18th. “Johnny B. Goode,” featuring Luke Smith on vocals, was performed in honor of Chuck Berry who had died earlier in the day.
The foursome and Crosby followed Jesse and Jenni’s appearance with a take on the Grateful Dead’s “Terrapin Station” and later worked “So Well” into the aforementioned “Westerly Reprise.” Reid, Jon, Luke, Erik and Jason then ended the run with a “Speculator” encore. Strangefolk host this year’s installment of Garden Of Eden at Stateside Amphitheatre in Jay Peak, Vermont on August 11 and 12.
