Full Show Audio: Umphrey’s McGee Continues ‘Jake-Less’ Run With Joshua Redman In Albany

While normally a six-piece, Umphrey’s McGee moved on through a run as a five-piece on Saturday night at the Palace Theatre in Albany as guitarist Jake Cinninger continues to recover from a “wicked flu.” The band did had help with saxophonist Joshua Redman aboard as a special guest for portions of both sets.
Umphrey’s opened with an emotional “Divisions” that recalled the band’s early days. Old favorites “Prowler” and “2nd Self” came next along with a rare “The Weight Around.” The group then welcomed Redman to the stage for “Gone For Good” and jammed-out takes on “Higgins” and “Ocean Billy.” Joshua also added to the wild “1348” sequence that included “Intentions Clear” in the second set and “Walletsworth.” A crazy moment came next as UM attempted “40’s Theme” without Cinninger. Brendan Bayliss handled Jake’s vocals on the tune.
From there, the five-piece took “In The Kitchen” deep and then covered Simple Minds’ “Don’t You (Forget About Me).” Bayliss took an opportunity to thank the crowd as the band recently celebrated its 19th anniversary and also mentioned how important Jake is to the group. After a quick break Umphrey’s returned to the stage for a “Resolution” encore that also included the end of “In The Kitchen.” UM now heads to Rochester to end (hopefully) the Jake-less run.
