Full Show Audio: Umphrey’s McGee Busts Out The Police Cover At Penn’s Peak
By Andy Kahn Jan 24, 2017 • 8:32 am PST
On Sunday night jam rockers Umphrey’s McGee held a show at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. UM started the night with Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger playing acoustic guitars and it ended with a bust out cover of a The Police favorite to start the encore.
Bayliss and Cinninger donned acoustic axes for the opening “Gone For Good” and kept them on for a cover of Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?” and a rendition of “Great American” featuring a take on “The Pequod.” Brendan and Jake went electric for the rest of the set, beginning with “Wappy Sprayberry” >” Believe the Lie,” and closing with the instrumentals “Nothing Too Fancy” and “Dump City” surrounding Cinninger’s “Syncopated Strangers.”
Longtime staple “2×2” opened set two, followed by the conclusion of “Syncopated,” ahead of a return to “2×2.” The set also featured “Resolution” with its common “Norwegian Wood” treatment and a “Divisions” fake out to start the “All In Time” closer. For the encore UM broke out a cover of “Miss Gradenko,” marking their first performance of The Police tune since August 15, 2013 – a 341 show gap. The bust out was followed by the end of “Nothing Too Fancy” started earlier in the evening.
