Full Show Audio: Umphrey’s McGee At Echostage In Washington D.C.

Chicago sextet Umphrey’s McGee returned to Washington, D.C. on Friday night for a performance at Echostage as part of the band’s cross-country tour with TAUK. Umphrey’s continued to dig deep into their repertoire for a quartet of 2016 debuts last night.
Up first on Friday was the instrumental intro “Gurgle” which returned to action for the first time since October 26, 2015. “Gurgle” led into “2nd Self” which was followed by a “Comma Later” > “Second Skin” > “Miss Tinkle’s Overture” sequence. The set concluded with “Loose Ends” > “Partyin’ Peeps,” “Rocker Pt. 2” and “Believe The Lie.”
What guitarist Jake Cinninger called “the best crowd we’ve ever had in this town” was treated to a 10-song second set. Umphrey’s started the closing stanza with “Preamble” > “Mantis” off their 2009 studio album Mantis. The latter gave way to an expansive “The Triple Wide” before UM concluded “Mantis.” Next up was a “Day Nurse” that included “Rapper’s Delight” teases and “Upward.” From there, the sextet dusted off a cover of the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?” for the first time this year. The beginning of “Puppet String” then led into the 2016 debut of “Yoga Pants” and the third section of “Pay The Snucka” as the whole song hasn’t been performed since early last summer. Umphrey’s said farewell to D.C. by encoring with “Glory” and the end of “Puppet String.”
Umphrey’s McGee and TAUK continue their tour tonight in Richmond, Virginia. While the show at The National is sold out a webcast of both bands’ performances is available via TourGigs.
