Last night Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to the stage for night five of their annual Beacon Theatre run. The Southern rock and soul ensemble offered up a two set “Evening With…” format for the sold out crowd at the historic Upper West Side venue, which saw the band paying tribute to the late-Tom Petty during their encore.

The night got underway with “Laugh About It,” from last year’s Let Me Get By, with the pairing of The Beatles’ “Within You Without You,” from their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and TTB’s “Just As Strange” following. Covers of Leon Russell’s “Darling Be Home Soon,” the Derek Trucks Band track “Get What You Deserve,” Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “I Pity The Fool” and the Joe Cocker via Matthew Moore tune “Space Captain” filled out the first set, alongside TTB originals “Shelter” and “Shame.”

The band’s second set kicked off with a cover of George Jones’ “Color Of The Blues,” which was followed by the blues standard “Key To The Highway.” A pair of originals followed with “Let Me Get By” and “It’s So Heavy,” from their 2013 release Made Up My Mind. “Comin’ Home,” Delaney and Bonnie’s collaboration with Eric Clapton, a ten-plus minute take on Allan Toussaint’s “Get Out My Life Woman,” that featured a sit-in from keyboardist Carey Frank, John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” and Jerry Garcia’s “Sugaree” fleshed out the majority of the second set. Tedeschi Trucks Band brought the main part of their show to a close with an 16-plus minute seamless pairing of “I Want More” with Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice.”

When the band returned to the stage for the encore Susan Tedeschi thanked the crowd and than gave a short speech about all the artists that have been lost this year, saying you might recognized this next one as Tedeschi sang lead on their debut performance of Tom Petty’s “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” from the singer-songwriter’s 1994 solo release Wildflowers. The Tedeschi Trucks Band brought night number five of six to close with one more cover, closing it out with a take on “Let’s Go Get Stoned,” which was a number hit for Ray Charles in 1966.

Tedeschi Trucks Band close out their annual Beacon Theatre run tonight with another two set “Evening With…” show.
