Full Show Audio & Pro-Shot Video: Dead & Company Concludes Two-Night Folsom Field Run

By Jeffrey Greenblatt Jun 11, 2017 8:37 am PDT

Last night Dead & Company wrapped up a two-night stand at Folsom Field, the 56,000-plus capacity football stadium on the campus of the University Colorado in Boulder. The band once again offered up a handful of tour debuts during a blues-heavy first set, with a second set full of Grateful Dead heavy-hitters.

The six-piece began the night with a jam that slowly wound its way into “Truckin’,” that had a distinct blues-y tinge with with John Mayer throwing down some fantastic guitar licks. The blues theme continued as the band transitioned into the pairing of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Smokestack Lightning” and Wille Dixon’s “Spoonful,” which both made their tour debuts last night. “Bertha” followed with Mayer continuing to shine on guitar, and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti playing off his band mate with some stellar organ playing. “Ramble On Rose” slowed things down, and was followed by an acoustic version of “Friend Of The Devil.” The blues-y side of the band was once again on display during “Loser,” with “Brown-Eyed Women” following and a rousing take on “Turn On Your Lovelight” that again featured some fantastic guitar solos from Mayer closing out the first set.

Dead & Co.’s kicked off their second set with the well-worn trifecta of “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot” > “Franklin’s Tower.” Bassist Oteil Burbridge once again got to show off his vocal skills taking lead on the second “China Doll” of the tour. The Grateful Dead’s exploratory psychedelic vehicle “Dark Star” was up next, with the band stretching this version out past the 15-minute mark before heading into “Drums” > “Space” with “Stella Blue” becoming the landing place out of it. The second set came to a close with the familiar pairing of “China Cat Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider,” which got a huge cheer from the crowd for it’s Colorado reference. Dead & Company concluded the evening with day-appropriate party-anthem “One More Saturday Night.”
