Full Show Audio: Mike Gordon Shows Off 5-Piece Band At The Egg In Albany

Despite Phish‘s reputation as one of the most taped band in rock it took nearly two weeks for the first recording of bassist Mike Gordon‘s current tour to surface. Thankfully a crispy recording of the five-piece’s recent visit to The Egg in Albany has been shared by taper Scott Bernstein (no relation).

Mike, guitarist Scott Murawski, drummer John Kimock, keyboardist Robert Walter and percussionist Craig Myers brought the run to The Egg this past Sunday night. The band opened with “Waking Up Dead,” Scott and Mike’s contribution to Phish’s 2016 studio album Big Boat. Sunday’s first set also featured “Morphing Again” and “Traveled Too Far” from Gordon’s 2008 album The Green Sparrow plus “Jumping” off 2014’s Overstep as well as Walter’s “Don’t Chin The Dog” and a cover of “Let Her Go” by Mac DeMarco.

Gordon & Co.’s second set at The Egg saw the band focus on recent Mike/Scott compositions. Both “Here Today” and “Take It As It Comes” were debuted by the five-piece in the summer of 2015, while Phish unveiled “Let’s Go” this past summer. The closing stanza also included staples “Tiny Little World” and “Yarmouth Road” as well as a take on Max Creek’s “Just A Rose.” Mike and his mates ended the night with a “Sugar Shack” that saw the bassist welcome audience members to share the stage and dance along to the tune’s odd time signature. Scott Bernstein’s audience recording can be downloaded here or streamed below.
