Full Show Audio: Marcus King Band Members Guest With Tedeschi Trucks Band In Mansfield
This summer’s Wheels Of Soul Tour continued on Sunday night at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Sets from The Marcus King Band and Drive-By Truckers were followed by the Tedeschi Trucks Band‘s headlining performance. The TTB brought out members of The Marcus King Band to help them close out the evening.
Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi led their band through Derek & The Dominos’ “Anyday” to kick off their Sunday night set. The TTB’s performance continued on with the beloved original “Do I Look Worried” and “Get What You Deserve” from the Derek Trucks Band era. Next came “Part Of Me” and the recent live staple “Shame” which should appear on the group’s next studio album. Earlier this month, the TTB started working Duane Allman’s “Little Martha” into “Midnight In Harlem” and the band pulled off the pairing once again last night at the venue formerly known as Great Woods.
A big surprise came next as the Tedeschi Trucks Band served up their debut rendition of Ruth Brown’s “(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean,” a song Susan recorded and performed with her own bands before the TTB was formed. Later in the set, the 12-piece reprised their cover of Bob Dylan’s “Going, Going, Gone” which they debuted earlier this tour. Sunday’s show came to a close with an encore featuring “Just As Strange” and a medley of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Sing A Simple Song” > “I Want To Take You Higher.” The Marcus King Band’s Marcus King, DeShawn Alexander, Justin Johnson and Dean Mitchell all augmented the TTB for the Sly medley.
The Wheels Of Soul Tour continues on Tuesday at CMAC in Canandaigua, New York.
