Videos & Full Show Audio: John Mayer Begins The Search For Everything Tour In Albany

Guitarist John Mayer began his The Search For Everything Tour last night, holding a concert at Times Union Center in Albany, New York. The tour opening show featured new songs, career-spanning favorites, acoustic arrangements, a John Mayer Trio segment and some select covers.

Mayer and his band opened the show with “Belief” from the 2006 album Continuum. Next came three songs from the upcoming Mayer solo album The Search For Everything, starting with the live debut of “Helpless” which was followed by “I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)” and “Love On The Weekend.” Mayer and drummer Steve Jordan offered an acoustic “Daughters” and the guitarist also offered a solo acoustic “In Your Atmosphere” as well as a cover of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” with the assistance of guitarist David Ryan Harris.

The acoustic section was followed by a video introduction of the John Mayer Trio which features Mayer, Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino. The threesome took the stage and lit into “Who Did You Think I Was,” followed by “Promised Land” (dedicated to Chuck Berry) and a rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s “Wait Until Tomorrow.”

The full band returned for a run through songs from across Mayer’s solo efforts, performing “Queen of California,” “Edge of Desire,” “Dear Marie,” “Why Georgia” and “In Repair.” The first encore was made up of a cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Stitched Up” backed by “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room.” Opening night ended with Mayer taking the stage to play a solo piano take on The Search For Everything track “You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me.”
