On July 2 Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead played one of few summer shows on their schedule at The Belly Up in Aspen, Colorado. Today, the band has shared a soundboard matrix recording of their Aspen show as the latest installment of the Taper Tuesdays series.

The five-piece came out of the gates with a jam they worked into “Here Comes Sunshine” sung by Tommy Hamilton. Then, Scott Metzger led the group through “Good Lovin'” ahead of the JRAD debut of The Beatles’ “Hey Bulldog.” Russo and his mates landed on “Viola Lee Blues” out of “Hey Bulldog” and jammed on the tune for nearly 15 minute before starting up “Bird Song.” Almost Dead’s first set in Aspen ended with a Metzger-led “My Brother Esau” and a Hamilton-led “Brown Eyed Women.”

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead’s second set in Aspen began with a “Jack A Roe” that included a “Hey Bulldog” tease. Metzger then fronted the quintet on “Sugar Magnolia/Sunshine Daydream” as well as the “Playing In The Band” that followed. “Playin'” featured a jam on Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter” within it. A lengthy “Mississippi Half Step” came next and gave way to “Tennessee Jed.” From there, JRAD worked a “Hey Bo Diddley” jam into “St. Stephen” and then ended the second set with their first “Touch Of Grey” in 57 shows. The band ended the night with a “Big Railroad Blues”/”One More Saturday Night” encore.
