By Scott Bernstein Dec 6, 2016 • 2:40 pm PST
On November 26 Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returned to The Fillmore Philadelphia for a two-set performance. Today the band has shared an official recording of their recent visit to Philadelphia as this week’s installment of the Taper Tuesday series.
Guitarists Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton, drummer Joe Russo and keyboardist Marco Benevento were joined by bassist Jon Shaw, who was filling-in for regular JRAD bassist Dave Dreiwitz who was playing a show with Ween at The Capitol Theatre. Almost Dead kicked off the show with a “Jam” > “Cumberland Blues” > “Here Comes Sunshine” sequence that spanned nearly 40 minutes and didn’t take their foot off the gas throughout the remainder of the evening. Other highlights included “The Wheel” > “Morning Dew” that ended the first set and an adventurous start to the second set which featured the end of “Slipknot!” followed by “Franklin’s Tower” ahead of a return to “Slipknot!” There’s also a standout “Eyes Of The World” > “Playing In The Band” pairing to end the second set.
