On New Year’s Eve, Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead held a concert at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. JRAD has shared a crispy soundboard recording of the guest-filled show.
A horn section made up of Jordan McLean, Raymond Mason, Stuart Bogie and Martin Perna kicked off the action with a New Orleans-style march through starting at the front of the theater and ending up on stage. The horns were involved for much of the show, including a first set debut cover of The Band’s “Life Is A Carnival” sung by drummer Joe Russo.
The ensemble also featuring guitarists Tom Hamilton and Scott Metzger, keyboardist Marco Benevento and bassist Dave Dreiwitz was also joined at various points by vocalist Nicole Atkins who first emerged in the second set to help out on “The Music Never Stopped” and “Dancing In The Streets.”
Russo and Red Baraat drummer Sunny Jain began the third set with a drums jam that led to a full band cover of Masada’s “Tzofeh” and the countdown to midnight. Atkins was on board to kick off the encore with a debut JRAD cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” which was followed by a take on the Dead’s “One More Saturday Night.” Stream a soundboard recording of the JRAD NYE show below:
