Full Show Audio: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Play New Orleans With Jeff Chimenti

On Friday night, Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead played their first of two shows at The Joy Theater in New Orleans. Dead & Company keyboardist Jeff Chimenti is subbing for Marco Benevento at both of JRAD’s NOLA performances. An audience recording of last night’s show has surfaced and can be streamed below.

The five-piece of Chimenti, drummer Joe Russo, bassist Dave Dreiwitz and guitarists Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton kicked off the evening with a jam that eventually led into “Dancing In The Streets.” Up next was “Cumberland Blues” followed by a “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot!” > “Viola Lee Blues” sequence that featured a jam on “Cumberland” within “Viola Lee Blues.” JRAD brought the first set to a close with “Throwing Stones.”

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead opened Friday’s second set with a version of “He’s Gone” dedicated to Prince. The band then welcomed electric violinist Katie Jacoby to share the stage on “Friend Of The Devil,” “Not Fade Away” and the “Terrapin Station Suite.” From there, JRAD played right up until curfew by ending the night with “The Music Never Stopped” and “Fire On The Mountain.”
