Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead played a one-night-only performance Saturday evening at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver. Drummer Joe Russo, guitarists Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton, keyboardist Marco Benevento and bassist Dave Dreiwitz delivered another high-octane dose of two jam-filled sets in Colorado.
After a 40 beat count-off, the band began the show with “Beat It On Down The Line” with Metzger taking charge both on lead vocals and guitar. “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot!” > “Feel Like A Stranger” and a nearly 20 minute “Let It Grow” highlighted the first set that closed with a well jammed “Uncle John’s Band.”
The Jerry Garcia Band deep cut “Magnificent Sanctuary Band” opened the show’s second half which was followed by a 20+ minute “St. Stephen.” The rest of the set featured few breaks between extended takes on “Eyes Of The World,” “Playing’ In The Band,” “He’s Gone,” “The Other One” and the intensely stirring set closer “Morning Dew.” Thanks to Taper Corey/KIND Recordings the entire concert can be streamed below:
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead will next appear on New Year’s Eve at The Fillmore Philadelphia.
