Umphrey’s McGee put a cap on their summer on Saturday night with a tour-closing gig at the House Of Blues in Dallas. The prog-jam rockers delivered a two-set affair in Texas that saw them welcome Jennifer Hartswick and James Casey for a pair of covers to help close out their opening frame.

The Chicago-based band got their night in The Lonestar State going with “Looks” from it’s not us. The septet then dug in with expansive takes on “Higgins,” jam-vehicle “The Triple Wide” and the rarity “Stinko’s Ascension” which was trotted out for just the 20th time ever since it was debuted back in 2015. After a take on “Triangle Tear” from their surprise album it’s you the band welcomed Hartswick to the stage. The trumpeter/vocalist fronted the band on their debut take on Whitesnake’s “Still Of The Night” from the hair metal band’s 1987 self-titled album. Hartswick remained on stage as Casey emerged next. The fellow Trey Anastasio Band members are both touring with the night’s opening band The Nth Power. With the horn players in tow, the ad-hoc ensemble offered up a take on Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” which was revived earlier this summer after a two-plus year layoff to close out the set.

Umphrey’s McGee kicked off their second frame of the evening with the one-two punch of “Nothing Too Fancy” > “Wife Soup” stretching the pairing out past the twenty-minute mark. Longtime setlist staple “Resolution” featured the band working in a tease of The Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood.” “Speak Up” and “In The Kitchen” followed with six-piece act returning back to “Nothing Too Fancy” to play just the song’s ending. “The Silent Type” brought the set to an end with the band tapping “Much Obliged” as their encore to close out their summer.
