Full Show Audio: Holly Bowling Welcomes Tom Hamilton At Ardmore Music Hall

By Scott Bernstein Oct 19, 2017 8:35 am PDT

Pianist Holly Bowling continued her fall tour at Ardmore Music Hall outside of Philadelphia on Wednesday night. Guitarist Tom Hamilton of American Babies/Joe Russo’s Almost Dead fame opened with an acoustic set and then wound up sitting-in with Bowling.

Tom’s opening set in his hometown saw him joined by guitarist Raina Mullen. Hamilton and Mullen played a set that included a number of American Babies songs and Alice In Chains’ “Got Me Wrong.” Holly kicked off her first set with “China Cat Rider,” which gave way to interpretations of “Swept Away” > “Steep” and “Fast Enough For You” by Phish. Bowling brought out Tom Hamilton after treating the crowd to her recently debuted original, “Proxima B.”

The Holly/THam pairing paid immediate dividends with a gorgeous “Eyes Of The World.” From there, the pair worked into “Slipknot!” and back into “Eyes” before bringing the set to a close with “Crazy Fingers.” Bowling returned to open the second set with the Dead’s “Althea” followed by covers of Phish’s “A Song I Heard The Ocean Sing,” “Dark Star” by the Grateful Dead and Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt.” An airy “Roggae” came next along with a set-closing “St. Stephen” > “I Know You Rider” sequence. The pianist said farewell with a “Tela” encore.
