Full Show Audio: Gov’t Mule Debuts ‘Pressure Under Fire’ In Germany

On Monday, Gov’t Mule’s current European Tour brought the quartet to Dortmund, Germany for a show at FZW. The concert included the debut live performance of an original song included on their just-released new studio album Revolution Come … Revolution Go.

“World Boss” opened the first set that also saw takes on such Mule favorites as “Blind Man In The Dark,” “Rocking Horse,” a cover of “Stratus” and “Temporary Saint.” Guitarist Warren Haynes also led the group through the Revolution Come, Revolution Go closing track “Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground,” which also served as the set closer.

The live debut of “Pressure Under Fire” ushered in the second set, followed by the fellow album cut “Stone Cold Rage.” In a statement announcing the album, Haynes shared these thoughts regarding the song that was first played Monday night:

“Pressure Under Fire” is essentially another political song, but it comes from the standpoint that we’re all in this together, and it’s up to us to make it work, The opening line, “Just another song about the same thing,” recognizes this is a message that we’ve heard before, but it needs to be said — especially now.

The second set also saw Mule perform covers of “Mr. Big” and “Need Your Love So Bad” and the Revolution Come … Revolution Go title track. Other staples such as “Broke Down on the Brazos” and “Thorazine Shuffle” filled out the second half. Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis and bassist Jorgen Carlsson offered a rendition of The Allman Brothers Band’s classic “Whipping Post” as the evening’s encore.
