Full Show Audio: Golden Gate Wingmen Jam With DJ Logic In New York City
By Scott Bernstein Feb 24, 2017 • 7:36 am PST
The first Golden Gate Wingmen tour of 2017 continued on Thursday night at Irving Plaza in New York City. Guitarist John Kadlecik, bassist Reed Mathis, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and drummer Jay Lane were joined by turntablist DJ Logic for portions of both sets in the Big Apple.
GGW presented an intriguing mix of songs over the course of their performance at Irving Plaza. John K. led the band through a cover of Bob Dylan’s “It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry” and his own “Givin’ Me The Business” to kick off the night. DJ Logic was on hand for the entire first set with the exception of a Kadlecik-sung “Ramble On Rose.” The opening stanza culminated in a well-jammed cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street.”
The quartet and their guest began the second set with a lengthy “Sugaree” ahead of Mathis leading “Far Enough.” It was then back to the Grateful Dead live repertoire for the rest of the set with the exception of Led Zeppelin’s “The Rain Song” as GGW worked “Brown-Eyed Women,” “Terrapin Station,” “So Many Roads” and “Not Fade Away” into the closing stanza. One hallmark of the band is their upbeat take on “Ripple” which served as the encore on Thursday. Listen to an audience recording of GGW in NYC towards the bottom of the post.
