On Friday night moe. brought the action at the first full day of this year’s Peach Music Festival to a close at Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pennsylvania with a tribute to Pink Floyd. While the band famously covered Dark Side Of The Moon in its entirety on Halloween 2000 in Philadelphia, this time around they pulled from various eras of Pink Floyd career. A crispy recording not only of moe.’s Floyd tribute but also of the stellar set they played earlier in the day has just surfaced.

moe. bookended their lengthy Pink Floyd tribute set with “In The Flesh” as they started the set with the beginning of the song and finished the set with the end of the tune. The band then plucked “The Happiest Days Of Our Lives” and “Another Brick In The Wall, Pt. 2” from The Wall and creatively used the “how can you have any pudding if you don’t eat you meat” lyric to introduce their own “Meat,” the lone original in the set. The near 20-minute “Meat” was followed by a batch of Dark Side tunes as Chuck Garvey sang “Time,” which was followed by the end of “Breathe” sung by Rob Derhak and a Chuck-led “Money.” Instead of a sax solo, Jim Loughlin provided a vibes solo in “Money.”

One of the many high points of the set was “Comfortably Numb,” which featured a gorgeous and powerful solo from Al Schnier. Schiner then moved over to keyboards to help provide the intro for “Shine On You Crazy Diamond.” Derhak handled lead vocals on Floyd’s ode to Syd Barrett, while Al filled the David Gilmour role. Up next was a gorgeous rendition of “Fearless” sung by Al and Chuck. The band then picked the energy up with a strong “Have A Cigar” led by Schnier. moe. finished the set with the remainder of “In The Flesh” and gave fans a full version of “Buster” as the encore. Highlights of the first set included a 20-minute “Recreational Chemistry” and the one-time rarity “Lazarus.”

Now, in terms of the set’s historical significance, “In The Flesh,” “The Happiest Days Of Our Lives,” “Another Brick In The Wall,” “Comfortably Numb” and “Have A Cigar” were all moe. debuts. Besides that, the band had played the other Pink Floyd covers at least once since this past New Year’s Eve with the exception of “Fearless,” which was last performed by moe. way back on February 28, 2009. Special note should be made of moe. LD Preston Hoffman, who mixed his usual light show with lasers for the performance.
