FREAKS BALL VII: NYC

By Team JamBase Jan 22, 2007 12:00 am PST

It’s lucky number 7, NYC-Freaks style. The party that put Robert Randolph and the Family Band and the Benevento/Russo Duo on the map and has featured other heavy hitters including the Campbell Brothers, Mike D., Skerik, Ollabelle, Rana, and many more is back for its seventh installment. That’s right, Freaks Ball time is here again, and this year’s show promises once again to be New York City’s can’t miss hit of the winter.

Some new up-and-comers join the Freaks this year for some powerful rock ‘n roll, mind-melting jamming, and down and dirty grooving at fabulous Southpaw in Park Slope, Brooklyn on January 27. The lineup is undoubtedly Lucky Sevens as we are lucky to be graced with some serious players:

Apollo Sunshine
Chris Harford and the Band of Changes (feat. Scott Metzger, Dave Dreiwitz, & Joe Russo)
The Dansettes

Doors at 7:30, music at 8:00 going all night long.

Believe the hype, Apollo Sunshine is starting to blow up and blow out audiences across the country. Specializing in a raw blend of rock, jam and country that’s a style all their own, the Sunshine will be warming up this cold winter night.

Chris Harford has been slowly gaining a reputation as a can’t miss live show in the Northeast and beyond and his ever-rotating Band of Changes is always full of surprises. For this special night at Southpaw, Chris has culled the very best: Scott Metzger (Rana), Dave Dreiwitz (Ween), and Joe Russo (Benevento/Russo Duo). There may not be a better backing band out there today.

The Dansettes may have you wondering just what decade you’ve landed in. They put the school in old school R&B and have crowds working up a lather with their deep, soulful grooving. Sporting a three-strong female front line and a wickedly funky backing band, it’s gonna be one big Freaky dance party.
