Foo Fighters Play Surprise Show In New Orleans

Last week the Foo Fighters announced the fall release of their eighth studio album and a new HBO series documenting the process. For their new album, the Foos traveled to historic studios across the country at cities featuring a rich musical history such as Chicago, Nashville, Austin and Los Angeles. We can now add New Orleans to that list as the band took over Preservation Hall to lay down a track produced by Butch Vig last week and celebrated with a surprise show on Saturday night.

As per NOLA.com, the Foos “capped off several days of recording at Preservation Hall with a blowout that shut down the 700 block of St. Peter Street.” A few hours before the band took the stage around 9 p.m., the Foo’s tweeted “So…NOLA, what’re you guys up to tonight?” along with a photo of Dave Grohl, with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s Charlie Gabriel and Freddie Lonzo. By the time the Foo Fighters took the stage at the historic venue, following a performance by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, a huge crowd had filled the street. Invited guests and VIPs, along with those outside, were treated to a 90-minute, greatest hits-filled set from Foo Fighters.

“This time, I feel like we really have gotten it right. We stayed here long enough so we learned a little bit about the city. We made a lot of friends,” Grohl told the crowd according to NOLA.com. Towards the end of the Foo’s set, Grohl asked if audience member Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews had his horn for “This Is A Call.” While Shorty didn’t have his trombone on him, he borrowed one and sat in with the Foo Fighters along with Pres Hall’s Clint Maedgen and Ben Jaffe.
