Foo Fighters Premiere Beatles Cover In Liverpool

Foo Fighters concluded a two-show stand at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool on Saturday. The band took the opportunity to cover the Northern England port city’s most famous export, The Beatles, during a five-song encore.

FF kicked off the encore with “The Teacher,” dedicated to frontman Dave Grohl‘s late mother Virginia Grohl, a longtime teacher and fixture at Foo Fighters shows after she retired. The band then delivered “Unconditional,” one of three tracks performed off their latest studio album, This Is A Toy, along with “Caught In The Echo” and “Window.”

Foo Fighters then offered the live debut of “I Want You (She’s So Heavy).” The nearly eight-minute blues rocker closes the first side of The Beatles’ 1969 album, Abbey Road. Foo Fighters delivered a faithful rendition including the song’s iconic outro.

The band kicked off the concert in Liverpool with “All My Life” and also delivered additional favorites such as “The Pretender,” “Times Like These,” “Learn To Fly” and “My Hero” before taking to their B-stage.

The more intimate format saw the band offering the Dave Grohl Nirvana-era solo song “Marigold” along with “Big Me,” which saw them bringing up a fan dressed as a tube of mentos. Returning to the main stage, the band wrapped the main set with their dedication to late drummer Taylor Hawkins on “Aurora” followed by”Best Of You.”
