Foo Fighters Bring New Songs & Old Favorites To NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk Concert’

Foo Fighters recently visited NPR to perform an intimate Tiny Desk Concert. The band played a pair of songs from their new album, Your Favorite Toy and filled out the set with a trio of longtime favorites.
Frontman Dave Grohl, who was raised nearby, talked about cramming into the limited space at NPR headquarters in Washington D.C., after opening the Tiny Desk Concert with the Your Favorite Toy track, “Spit Shine.” A performance by fellow D.C.-area natives Trouble Funk helped ease Grohl’s concern about finding room for his band.
“It’s an honor to be here,” Grohl said. “I mean, I’ve watched so many of these Tiny Desk shows and have a bunch of favorites. I got to say, when I saw Trouble Funk squeeze into this tiny little office space right here, I was like, ‘Well, it’s not that tiny. You can put Trouble Funk in here. Oh my god.’ But it’s great to be here and to be home, too. That’s one of the things I love.”
Grohl and his bandmates – guitarists Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett, bassist Nate Mendel, keyboardist Rami Jaffee and drummer Ilan Rubin – then played “Learn to Fly” from the 1999 album There is Nothing Left to Lose.
Another Your Favorite Toy song, “Child Actor,” was chosen next, followed by well-known classics, “My Hero” and “Everlong,” off their 1997 full-length The Colour and the Shape.
