9 New Albums Out Today From Foo Fighters, Noah Kahan, Mikaela Davis & More

Foo Fighters released their 12th studio album, Your Favorite Toy, via Roswell Records/RCA Records. Co-produced by Foo Fighters and Oliver Roman, Your Favorite Toy marks the band’s first album to feature new drummer Ilan Rubin. The former Nine Inch Nails drummer replaced Josh Freese, who joined the band after the untimely death of Taylor Hawkins in 2022. Freese never appeared on a Foo Fighters studio album during his tenure, Dave Grohl was behind the kit for their 2023 album, But Here We Are.

“We’ve had four drummers in 30 years, but we had Taylor Hawkins as our drummer for 25 years,” Grohl told Apple Music. “Beyond being an amazing drummer, he was this incredible spirit, this incredible human being. He was our brother. He was our best friend. So continuing on after Taylor was really complicated — not just for us, but for any drummer that was going to come in to fill his shoes.”

“I got to this place where I was like, ‘Okay, so what’s the intention? What’s the ambition? We’ve been a band for 30 years, and as people, we’re evolving and we’re growing — so where do we go from here? What do we do? That’s when all of the boundaries just sort of fall away, and that’s where you realize the intention and the ambition is really all within yourself. So whatever’s going to make us jump around and smile and scream, that’s the purest intention.”

Noah Kahan’s new album, The Great Divide, arrived today through Mercury Records. Kahan’s long-awaited fourth studio album serves as the follow-up to his 2022 breakthrough record, Stick Season. The Vermont-bred artist tapped Stick Season collaborator Gabe Simon to produce The Great Divide, alongside The National’s Aaron Dessner. Kahan mainly recorded the album at Dessner’s Long Pond Studio facility, Gold Pacific Studio in Nashville and “a farm with a firetower in Only, Tennessee.” Kahan looked back on the journey that led to The Great Divide, stating:

“The last five years have been the single most challenging, complicatedly beautiful, and life-altering of my career. I was somewhere I understood, and suddenly I was somewhere completely foreign. I was living in the opportunity I always wanted but felt disoriented and unsure of whether I deserved it. Writing for this album was a balancing act of trying to go back in time and move forward in the same moment. Songwriting has always been the way I reflect on my life, and I hope these songs show you a glimpse of what this journey has looked like.”

Harpist Mikaela Davis issued a new album, Graceland Way, through Kill Rock Stars. Davis co-produced the album with bassist Dan Horne and guitarist John Lee Shannon, who also appear across its 10 tracks. Recording sessions were held at UHF Studio in the Chevy Chase Hills outside Los Angeles. Others who recorded with Davis include guitarists Madison Cunningham, Tim Heidecker, Karly Hartzman of Wednesday and Clay Finch of Mapache, keyboardists Neal Francis and Frank LoCrasto, among others.

“This album was born in the hills of Glendale, California,” Davis revealed. “On a dead end street high above Chevy Chase Canyon, where the coyotes howl and Bubu the cat roams free.”

The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr released a new solo album, Long Long Road, recorded in collaboration with producer T Bone Burnett. The 10-song collection comes on the heels of 2025’s Look Up, which was also produced by Burnett, who wrote or co-wrote most of the songs featured on the new album. Many of the musicians who backed Starr on Look Up — Paul Franklin, David Mansfield, Dennis Crouch, Daniel Tashian, Rory Hoffman, Patrick Warren and Colin Linden — also appear on Long Long Road, which was co-produced by Daniel Tashian and Bruce Sugar. The album features contributions from Billy Strings, Sheryl Crow, St. Vincent, Molly Tuttle and Sarah Jarosz.

“I’m blessed to have T Bone in my life right now and working with me on these records,” Starr explained. “After we did the last record, which I love listening to, this one just sort of happened. I like to say sometimes I make the right moves, like you can go left or right at any point, and one of the right moves was hooking up with T Bone for Look Up, and now for this one, which I’m calling Long Long Road, because I’ve been on a long long road.”

White Denim shared a new album, 13, through Bella Union. The project’s primary member James Petralli, who launched the band in Austin, Texas and now calls the Los Angeles area home, recorded the follow-up to 2024’s 12 in L.A. with contributions from Taylor Goldsmith and Griffin Goldsmith of Dawes. White Denim original drummer Josh Block and and bassist Steve Terebecki, and current members, keyboardist Michael Hunter and drummer Matt Young, also appear on 13.

“I wouldn’t call a project White Denim if it didn’t include significant contributions from another founding member of the group,” Petralli stated. “12 and 13 both feature Josh and Steve in various capacities. I recorded and arranged these last two records for the most part, but I really don’t ever want to be alone. Music has given me a place and purpose in this world. And it’s been the primary way I’ve connected with other people over the years.”

Chicago-based Friko today released their sophomore album, Something Worth Waiting For, via ATO Records. The band — vocalist/guitarist Niko Kapetan, drummer Bailey Minzenberger, guitarist Korgan Robb and bassist David Fuller — worked with accomplished producer John Congleton on the follow-up to their 2024 debut album, Where we’ve been, Where we go from here. Recorded at Congleton’s studio in Los Angeles, Something Worth Waiting For is the group’s first made with Robb and Fuller, who joined the lineup after the release of the first album.

“On our first record we were much more involved in the technical aspect of everything, but this time John made it clear that he wanted us to just come in and do our thing,” Minzenberger stated. “I think that allowed us to let go in a way that we never had before, and because of that we captured something very raw.”

Seattle-based saxophonist Skerik released his first fully ambient album, SKERIK 061725, via the Stone Gossard co-founded label Loosegroove Records. Skerik employed his “saxophonics” layering technique across the album’s six tracks. Describing the record, Skerik shared:

“My mother had [Brian Eno’s] Ambient 1: Music for Airports around the time it came out in 1978. I thought it was lame and couldn’t understand why anyone would listen. I was into rock, fusion, jazz, symphonic, and searched for a visceral experience from music. It wasn’t until I met Keith Lowe in high school that I learned how to engage with these new sounds. Keith was an older hero to us musicians where we grew up, and he had my full attention. He turned me on to Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, and records from the label ECM. It was a time of monumental discovery and inspiration.

“But it wasn’t until the early ’90s that I was able to fully appreciate the minimalist, environmental concepts of ambient music. My band Critters Buggin recorded Amoeba in 1999, which had ambient sounds as a direct inspiration. I eventually recorded Psychochromatic in 2001 with looped saxophones. Ever since then, ambient music has been an inspiration in my recordings. Now film music and reading science fiction can help shape music created in this department. Hopefully this album can be used in anyway people see fit. I love making these records and always find inspiration in the discovery of saxophone loops and chord creation.”

Saturday Night Sermon is the new album out now from Brooklyn-based band Yarn. The core band — frontman Blake Christiana, drummer Robert Bonhomme and bassist Rick Bugel — were joined on the album by Mike Robinson (Railroad Earth), Andy Falco (Infamous Stringdusters), Mike Sivilli (Dangermuffin), Elliott Peck (Midnight North) and others, including producer/keyboardist Damian Calcagne — whose studio The Pinebox in Boonton Township, New Jersey hosted the recording sessions.

“The band has officially found something really special over the past couple of years,” Christiana said. “It feels like we are finally the live band and album-producing band we always set out to be, and the message we are aiming to deliver has also found its foothold.”

The Hip Snacks released their sophomore album, Out On A Limb. The Denver-based soulful funk band –- vocalist Kara Durante, bassist Ben Suarez, drummer Dylan French, keyboardist Adam Schini and guitarists Ricky Feria and Felipe Cantuaria -– again worked with Steve Avedis, who recorded their 2024 debut What Lies Ahead. The 10-song Out On A Limb was tracked during sessions held at Colorado Sound Studios.

“This time around with Steve, we had a bit more room to explore some ideas,” Durante stated. “And just feeling more confident [in the studio].”
