Outlaw house duo Flying Mojito Bros impressed with a pair of late-night sets at Phish’s Mondegreen festival in Dover, Delaware last Thursday and Friday nights. Hot off appearances at Phish: Riviera Maya, Bonnaroo and Glastonbury earlier this year, the Brits weaved together a diverse array of classic songs into seamless dance parties at The Heliograph.
Phish bassist Mike Gordon was among those in attendance as Flying Mojito Bros wowed the Mondegreen massive. The desert disco specialists went big after Friday's secret set to keep festivalgoers moving until 2 a.m.
Flying Mojito Bros are known for their inventive edits and they didn’t disappoint. The pair’s 90-minute performances featured one groove-laced remix after another. A fresh spin on the Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street” had the crowd right in the palm of the Bros’ hands on Thursday.
A discofied version of Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon” began the banger of a Friday night set. Flying Mojito Bros went on to fuse such classic rock favorites as Robert Palmer’s “Sneakin’ Sally Through The Alley,” Sheryl Crow’s “All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun,” Edgar Winter’s “Free Ride,” the Eagles’ “Life In The Fast Lane,” CCR’s “Fortunate Son” and Dr. Hook’s “Clyde” into the mix. A highlight was the Flying Mojito Bros’ “Refrito” of Steely Dan’s “Do It Again.”
Flying Mojito Bros’ set climaxed with a reimagined “On The Road Again” (Canned Heat) featuring vocals that seemed as if they were spouted by a robot. The duo brought the night and their time at Mondegreen to a close with an unreleased edit of Tony Joe White’s “Bout to Dance.” Stay tuned for the remix to drop on Friday.
