One year ago today Phish concluded a three-night stand at Randall’s Island in New York City with a tremendous performance that showed off the band’s improvisational prowess. The 55+ minute “Chalk Dust Torture” > “Light” > “Tweezer” segment that kicked off the second set is one fans still hold in high regard a year later. Specifically, the epic “Chalk Dust” was even mentioned by a few fans as deserving of a spot on the Mount Rushmore of Phish Jams.

Here’s what we had to say about the Randall’s Chalk Dust in our write-up:

If you’re a Phish fan who loves to hear the band jam, you should love the final set Phish played on Randall’s Island. The 28+ minute “Chalk Dust” that kicked off the set had it all. You dig big Trey-led climaxes? Check! Want to hear Page lead the band and Fish absolutely crush a dynamic beat? Plenty of that! Are you into the moments when Phish gets “out there?” “Chalk Dust” had many spacey moments where you had no idea where they’d take it next. More than 30 years into their storied career, The Vermonters explored so much new ground for them, taking ample time at a number of stops along their epic journey.

Thankfully, the band shared pro-shot video of the “Chalk Dust”:

Phish kicks off Summer Tour ’15 on July 21 in Bend, Oregon.
