Widespread Panic played the second show of a two-night stand at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville Sunday night. Their second performance at the new venue included a guest appearance by Mississippi-born, Nashville-based pianist Jim “Fish” Michie who joined the band for two songs in the second set.

Panic led off the night with “Can’t Get High” and continued with a “Chilly Water” > “Mr. Soul” > “Chilly Water” pairing. A run of classics, including “Let’s Get The Show On The Road,” “Bear’s Gone Fishin’” and “Ribs & Whiskey,” preceded the newer “Steven’s Cat.” The opening set then closed with a “Big Wooly Mammoth” > “Love Tractor” combination.

Set two started with more well-traveled tunes, jumping off with  “Lil Kin” > “Machine” > “Barstools & Dreamers.” The band then performed the new original “Angels Don’t Sing The Blues” which made its debut on the Fourth Of July and was only being played for the fourth time. Michie – formerly of the Mississippi-band The Tangents –  emerged mid-second set to add keys to J.J. Cale’s “Ride Me High,” and stuck around after it transitioned into ”Arlene.” The local pianist left WSP to close out the show with “Junior,” “Bowlegged Woman” (this first of the year) and “Fishwater” which included an “Another One Bites The Dust” tease. The encore was constructed out of “May Your Glass Be Filled,” “Travelin’ Light” and “North” ending the band’s debut run at Ascend Amphitheater.
