Father John Misty Honors Tom Petty In Phoenix

Father John Misty held a concert last night at Phoenix’s Orpheum Theatre. Frontman Josh Tillman took time during the show to perform a solo acoustic cover of a song originally recorded by Tom Petty.
Touring in support of the Father John Misty album Pure Comedy, which came out on Sub Pop earlier this year, the LP’s first four songs also served as Wednesday’s opening segment. The main set was filled out with a few selections from 2012’s Fear Fun and several from 2015’s I Love You, Honeybear. At one point Tillman was left on stage alone with his acoustic guitar to perform a cover of “To Find A Friend,” from Petty’s 1994 solo album Wildflowers.
