Exclusive Premiere: Joe Marcinek Recruits George Porter Jr. & More In San Francisco

Guitarist Joe Marcinek has played with many masterful musicians as part of his ever-changing Joe Marcinek Band project. Yet on November 3 at the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco, Marcinek crossed off performing with one of his all-time favorite artists from his musical bucket list, as the version of the JMB that played the Bay Area featured bassist George Porter Jr.. JamBase is pleased to premiere pro-shot video of two tunes from that memorable night.

The rest of the JMB was no joke as Alan Evans of Soulive & KDTU fame was behind the drums and acclaimed keyboardist Wil Blades rounded out the quartet. Marcinek told JamBase about the night, “Growing up you just never could imagine playing a whole weekend of shows with a legend like George Porter Jr. So the whole thing just was amazing and a dream come true for me. We got into this nice little groove during ‘Franklin’s Tower’ in San Francisco and everyone just locked in. You can see the smiles on everyone’s faces and that was just the ultimate for me.”

Joe went on about the experience, “To be able to surprise a guy that like even after all these years of playing…George had some great things to say about the band and my concept of doing the different lineup every weekend. We never rehearse and I do that on purpose to keep as much of the magic on stage as possible. I like getting really good musicians together and just going up and doing it. That way we have to figure things out right there in front of everyone. It makes you have to listen and use your instincts.”
