This Sunday, May 21, Nederland, Colorado’s own Elephant Revival will return to the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado with support from The Oh Hellos and Mandolin Orange. In advance of the group’s Red Rocks show, JamBase is pleased to premiere official video of a Jefferson Airplane cover Elephant Revival laid down previously at the gorgeous venue.
Bonnie Paine shines on the tune with her powerful vocals as the rest of the band trades in their acoustic instruments for ones accompanied by electric distortion effects. Paine explains how Elephant Revival came to cover “White Rabbit” at Red Rocks:
“I have been introduced to some amazing music through my dad’s record collection. When my sisters and I had just formed a band and were getting ready for rehearsal, my dad pulled out this Jefferson Airplane album and said, ‘Now here’s a song I think you guys could have fun with.’ He played us ‘White Rabbit’ and we all really liked it, so decided to learn it. I like how the story of Alice in Wonderland sheds light on the ways which we define the world we are in and our confronting of fears through dreamwork. I thought it would be fun to play ‘White Rabbit’ at Red Rocks knowing my dad would be there and also loves this song.” – Bonnie Paine
