Alabama rockers CBDB will issue their third full-length studio album, Out Of Line, on May 5. JamBase is pleased to premiere audio of the entire LP ahead of its official release.
CBDB features guitarist/vocalist Cy Simonton, guitarist/vocalist Kris Gottlieb, multi-instrumentalist Glenn Dillard, drummer Paul Oliver and bassist/vocalist Mike Sinopole. The five-piece built a loyal following in the south and has been impressing during a stint opening for Perpetual Groove up and down the East Coast this month as they continue to grow a national audience. Late last year, CBDB entered Zac Brown’s famed Southern Ground Nashville studio and emerged with the eclectic Out Of Line, the seven-track follow-up to 2015’s Joyfunk Is Dead. The album is currently available for pre-order via iTunes.
The members of CBDB shared thoughts about each song on Out Of Line:
1. Patterns: “I wrote the initial lick at The Werk Out before Mike’s first gig. It sat on the shelf for a long time before coming together with a Wings-inspired driving bass line. The song itself is about being aware of the habits and patterns, big or small, that shape our day to day lives.” – Cy Simonton
2. Mumble Bull: “This is a feel-good song about being in a crowd of folks and singing along without necessarily knowing all of the words. We wanted to catch the feeling of love between a mass of strangers being moved by music.” – Cy Simonton

3. Unintentional Liar: “‘Unintentional Liar’ is about living in the technological apocalypse. There’s a lot of BS out there and it can be difficult to interpret intention through a screen.” – Kris Gottlieb
4. Opelika Yella: “‘Opelika Yella’ is a cool tune because it’s the only song on the album that has an extended jam section. The song originated from a jam session that Paul and I recorded at the farm [Paul’s house] one day. So we wanted to stay true to the nature of the idea and let the jam really breathe on the recording.” – Mike Sinopole
5. Unaware: “‘Unaware’ is the tune that came together the quickest. We were playing the song at an on-the-road rehearsal in Oxford, Mississippi; and I remember feeling as if the song was complete after only a couple of passes.” – Paul Oliver
6. Fine Line: “‘Fine Line’ is comprised of two pretty contrasting ideas that really work well off of each other. I think one of them was a soundcheck gem that we luckily recorded with a voice memo.” – Kris Gottlieb

7. Feel So Far: “‘Feel So Far strikes a chord with me in two ways. First, it’s a song dedicated to the life of our friend and former crew member, Jon (Seale). Second, the instrument I chose for this track is a Hammond B3 organ, previously owned by the late Gregg Allman. Mixing those two emotions was, and still is, over the top for me.” – Glenn Dillard
