Eric Clapton Shares Video Of ‘Motherless Children’ With Derek Trucks

Veteran guitarist Eric Clapton will issue a new double live album Live In San Diego (with Special Guest JJ Cale) via Reprise/Bushbranch Records on September 30. In advance of its release, Slowhand has shared an official video clip of the performance of “Motherless Children” from the concert.
Featuring a band composed of guitarists Derek Trucks and Doyle Bramhall II, drummer Steve Jordan and others, the recording comes from Clapton’s March 15, 2007 concert at Ipayone Center in San Diego. As the title implies, guest guitarist and frequent Clapton collaborator, the late great J.J. Cale sat-in on several numbers, including “Anyway the Wind Blows,” “Who Am I Telling You?,” “Don’t Cry Sister,” “After Midnight” and “Cocaine.” The show also featured guitarist Robert Cray joining in on the closing “Crossroads.”
Premiered by the Wall Street Journal, Clapton and Trucks feature prominently in the otherwise guest-free version of “Motherless Children” below:
