By Scott Bernstein Mar 20, 2017 • 7:18 am PDT

Guitar great Eric Clapton played his first concert of 2017 last night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The show began a short run for “Slowhand” that includes a second night at MSG followed by two shows at The Forum in Los Angeles on March 25 and 26. Fellow guitar gods Gary Clark Jr. and Jimmie Vaughan kicked off the evening with sets of their own and then joined Clapton as part of the encore.
Clapton mixed material from throughout his career including covers and originals on Sunday night. Eric led his band through “Key To The Highway” to open the show and then played the Cream classic “Badge.” Slowhand’s performance consisted of a 13-song main set featuring such hits as “I Shot The Sheriff,” “Tears In Heaven,” “Layla,” “Wonderful Tonight” and “Cocaine” followed by a two-song encore. EC started the encore with “Sunshine Of Your Love.” He then brought out Jimmie and Gary to jam on “Before You Accuse Me” by Bo Diddley.
