Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh made his return to Arizona on Saturday with The Terrapin Family Band as one of the headliners of this year’s Pot Of Gold Music Festival in Chandler. Phil’s set saw him joined by the usual TXR Family Band lineup of guitarists Ross James and Grahame Lesh, keyboardist Jason Crosby and drummer Alex Koford with the special addition of Grahame’s Midnight North band mate Elliott Peck. The set featured a mix of Grateful Dead classics including “Scarlet Begonias,” “Playing In The Band” and “Terrapin Station” with choice classic rock covers such as Stephen Stills’ “Love The One You’re With” and Funkadelic’s “Get Off Your Ass And Jam.”

Midnight North played a set of their own heavy on material from Under The Lights, while St. Paul & The Broken Bones’ performance showcased the powerful pipes of frontman Paul Janeway. Veteran jam act Big Head Todd & The Monsters treated the crowd to a career-spanning set that included fan-favorite “Bittersweet,” while recent Grammy winners The Infamous Stringdusters threw in a few teases of Irish songs in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Sunday at Pot Of Gold was a varied affair that featured reggae-heavy sets from Pepper, The Dirty Heads and Rebelution. Chris Robinson Brotherhood delivered a nine-song performance that saw them fit in “Venus In Chrome,” “The Chauffeur’s Daughter” and “Behold The Seer,” among others. Photographer Bill Grenfell was on hand to document the action in Arizona:
