A newborn was found dead Sunday morning at the Electric Forest festival. The tragic discovery was made at a portable bathroom within the campgrounds of the event held annually in Rothbury, Michigan.
Michigan State Police are investigating the death and searching for the woman who gave birth to the newborn infant. The police referred to the infant as a “neonate.” Authorities said the “neonate,” thought to be four weeks old or younger, was found by an employee of the restroom services vendor during a routine maintence check on Sunday morning at 7:50 a.m.
Organizers of the festival have urged Electric Forest attendees to contact authorities if they have any information about the incident. “Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you. Michigan State Police continues to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way,” read a note on the festival’s social channels.
The post also included a statement from the Michigan State Police regarding the investigation.“The Michigan State Police continue to investigate the discovery of deceased neonate found Sunday morning in the camping area at the Electric Forest Festival,” noted the police statement. “Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance. If you were in the area and observed anything unusual, or if you have information that you believe may be relevant, we encourage you to come forward.”
Electric Forest 2026 ran from Thursday, June 25 through Sunday, June 28 at Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, Michigan. Originally presented as the Rothbury Music Festival in 2008, the event changed its name to Electric Forest in 2014.
