Bassist Reed Mathis completed his first Colorado run with Electric Beethoven lasts night at the Fox Theater in Boulder, where the band was joined by a trio of special guests. Electric Beethoven played a two-and-a-half hour set at the Fox in which the group improvised off of Beethoven’s 3rd and 6th symphonies.

Reed and his band were aided by The Motet keyboardist Joey Porter for a 30-minute jam during the second movement of the lengthy set. Later in the night Mathis invited Big Gigantic’s Jeremy Salken and his old Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey band mate Josh Raymer to take turns conducting EB by switching positions on Jay Lane’s drum set. The three drummers took turns behind the kit, while the other drummers would contribute flourishes by banging on anything in sight.

Next up for Electric Beethoven is a Thanksgiving Weekend run.
