Actress and vocalist Echo Picone celebrated her 17th birthday on Sunday by taking the stage with Dweezil Zappa at the Keswick Theatre near Philadelphia. Picone joined Zappa and his talented ensemble for their two-song encore in a reprise of an appearance Echo made during Dweezil’s Roxpostrophy Tour stop in Morristown, New Jersey a week prior.

Dweezil Zappa is approaching the tail end of his first tour since 2020. The guitarist performs songs from his father Frank Zappa’s massive catalog each night backed by guitarist/drummer Zach Tabori, keyboardist Bobby Victor, multi-instrumentalist Scheila Gonzalez, bassist Kurt Morgan and drummer Ryan Brown.

Echo Picone has appeared in various off-Broadway productions, performs at New York City supper club 54 Below and voiced Kendra in the animated television series Pinkalicious & Peterrific. The youngster impressed so much in Morristown that Dweezil invited her back to sit in at the Keswick.

Picone’s guest spot and the encore on Sunday began with “Sharleena” after Dweezil led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to Echo. “Sharleena” was a fitting choice as Dweezil was 17 in 1984 when he joined his father in the studio to record the version of the song featured on the 1984 album Them Or Us. Echo Picone handled and nailed the extremely high-pitched vocals on “Sharleena.”

The special guest stuck around to help Dweezil Zappa and his band wrap the concert with “Zomby Woof.” Echo Picone helmed the cut from Frank’s 1973 LP Over-Nite Sensation.
