Drive-By Truckers Share ‘The KKK Took My Baby Away’ Cover Video

Drive-By Truckers released the video for their cover of The Ramones’ “The KKK Took My Baby Away.” The track appears on DBT’s 2020 album, The New Ok.

The New Ok is the second Truckers album of 2020 following The Unraveling which arrived in March. The video for “The KKK Took My Baby Away” heralds the physical release of The New OK taking place on Friday, December 18.

“The KKK Took My Baby Away” appears on The Ramones’ 1981 album, Pleasant Dreams. The Truckers version features lead vocals from bassist Matt Patton.

Drive-By Truckers’ Patterson Hood detailed the song and video in a statement. Read his words below:

One take, live vocal, gang shouts for choruses at the end of an 85-hour marathon session in Memphis. Bobby Matt delivered the goods. David Barbe told us we’d be glad if we did it – we are so happy we did and could include it on The New OK.

Making the video was the kind of fun we used to have with it when I was young. It felt good to get out and raise a little mischief and not overthink it. Plus my kid really loves it, loves the Ramones, and loves to hear DBT play it.
