Dr. Dog delivered their final concert on New Year’s Eve on Friday. The Philadelphia-based rockers fittingly offered a career-spanning set at Philly’s Union Transfer with songs from eight of their 10 studio albums along with a pair of covers.
Dr. Dog announced in July that they would make a “graceful exit from touring” after The Last Tour, which culminated with the NYE concert on Friday. Dr. Dog kicked off the show with “Survive” from their 2016 LP, Abandoned Mansion. the band then visited their 2008 release, Fate, with “The Old Days” and “Hang On.” But one of the albums Dr. Dog drew the most from was 2010’s Shame, Shame beginning with “I Only Wear Blue” and the title track.

The main set also included favorites like Fate’s “The Breeze” and Shame, Shame’s “Where’d All The Time Go.” Be The Void was another album the band pulled heavily from with the latter half of the main set containing that record’s “Vampire,” “These Days” and “That Old Black Hole” which followed a cover of Architecture In Helsinki’s “Heart It Races.”
“That Old Black Hole” prefaced the band’s countdown festivities which saw the Dr. Dog taking it back to their 2002 debut album Toothbrush on “Heaven” as well as “Humble Passenger” from 2013’s B-Room ahead of the traditional “Auld Lang Syne.” The band closed out the countdown segment as well as the main set with “Wake Up” from 2005’s Easy Beat.
Dr. Dog returned for a substantial nine-song encore befitting a farewell concert and began with a cover of “Here Comes The Hotstepper” from reggae artist Ini Kamoze. Dr. Dog welcomed collaborator Pat Finnerty who did the video for Dr. Dog’s 2021 Kamoze cover. Finnerty would then stay on for Be The Void’s “How Long Must I Wait?.” The final frame also saw Dr. Dog offering a track from their 2007 album We All Belong with “The Girl.” The encore came to a close with two favorites “Nellie” and “Shadow People.”
