The Doobie Brothers & Gregg Allman Swap Guest Spots In Cary

Last night a run of Gregg Allman / co-bills continued at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, North Carolina; where the legendary rock acts exchanged guest spots at the gorgeous venue.

The Doobie Brothers are currently touring with Little Feat’s Bill Payne on keyboards. Payne provided the iconic piano intro to the evening’s lone song from the Michael McDonald era – “Takin’ It To The Streets.” Allman emerged to lead the Doobie Brothers on “Takin’ It To The Streets” and also helped out on keyboards. The Doobies were also joined by vocalist Ruthie Collins for “Listen To The Music” as part of a two-song encore.

The Gregg Allman Band’s set saw Doobie Brothers multi-instrumentalist John McFee add to a cover of Nico’s “These Days.” For Gregg’s encore, he welcomed Doobies co-founding guitarists Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons to help out on “One Way Out” as they did at Saturday’s Laid Back Festival. While video from Cary has yet to emerge, watch Johnston, Payne and Simmons add to “Southbound” in Holmdel, New Jersey on Friday night thanks to Rock, Roots, & Blues Live:

The Doobie Brothers and Gregg Allman perform at Pier Six Pavilion in Baltimore tonight.
